Chiropractic Care

At our clinic, we take a truly holistic approach to chiropractic care. I combine gentle McTimoney adjustments with the precision of Diversified chiropractic techniques, ensuring the bones and joints are realigned safely and effectively. To complement this, I incorporate myofascial release and trigger point therapy, working deeply into the muscles and fascia to ease tension, restore movement, and promote long-lasting relief. By treating the bones, muscles, and connective tissues together, I provide a uniquely comprehensive treatment that addresses the root of discomfort, supports the body’s natural balance, and helps you move and feel your best.

  • Is Chiropractic Care Safe?

Yes, chiropractic care is considered safe when performed by a trained, licensed and experienced chiropractor. Allan is registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC reg. number: 05918) and adheres to strict safety protocols.

Mctimoney chiropractic is especially safe and there are no 'cracks'. In fact, it's not unheard of for people to fall asleep during the treatment

  • Do I need a GP Referral?

No, you do not need a referral from your GP to see Allan. You can book an appointment directly with him. However, if you have any underlying health conditions or are currently receiving treatment from another healthcare provider, it’s a good idea to inform them of your intention to seek chiropractic care.

  • What Should I Expect During my First Visit?

During your first visit, Allan will take a comprehensive medical history and conduct a physical examination. This may include tests to assess your posture, range of motion, and neurological function. Based on the findings, he’ll discuss a treatment plan tailored to your needs. In most cases, you may receive your first treatment during this visit.

  • What Should I Wear To My Appointment?

It’s best to wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy movement.

  • How Long Will My First Appointment Take?

Your first appointment typically lasts between 45 minutes to an hour. This allows enough time for a thorough examination, discussion of your medical history, and initial treatment. Follow-up appointments are generally shorter, usually around 20 to 30 minutes.

  • Will I Receive Treatment During My First Visit?

In most cases, you will receive your first treatment during your initial visit, unless further diagnostic tests are required. Allan will discuss your treatment options with you before proceeding.

  • How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments needed varies depending on the condition being treated, its severity, and your overall health. Some patients experience significant improvement after just a few sessions, while others may require ongoing care. Allan will discuss treatment plans with you after your initial assessment.

  • Are Chiropractic Adjustments Painful?

Chiropractic adjustments are typically not painful. You may hear a popping or cracking sound during the adjustment, which is simply the release of gas from the joints. Some patients may experience mild discomfort or soreness after an adjustment, particularly if it’s their first time, but this usually resolves within 24 hours.

  • What are the “Cracks” During Chiropractic Adjustments?

One of the most commonly associated sounds with chiropractic adjustments is the "crack" or "pop" that often occurs during spinal manipulations. While this sound can be alarming to some, it is a normal part of the process and is not harmful.

    1. What Causes the "Cracks"? The "crack" or "pop" heard during a chiropractic adjustment is known as cavitation. It occurs when the chiropractor applies a quick, controlled force to a joint, causing the joint to release gas bubbles from the synovial fluid that surrounds it. This release of gas creates the characteristic sound. The process is similar to the sound made when cracking your knuckles.
    2. Is Cavitation Necessary? While the cavitation sound is often associated with a successful adjustment, it is not necessary for the adjustment to be effective. The therapeutic benefits of chiropractic care come from the realignment of the spine and joints, not from the sound itself. Some patients may not hear a "crack" during their adjustments, especially with gentler techniques like McTimoney Chiropractic, but they will still experience the benefits of the treatment.
    3. Why Cavitation is Important in Chiropractic: Cavitation indicates that the joint has been moved and that pressure has been released, which can help reduce pain and restore function. However, it’s important to understand that the effectiveness of chiropractic care is not dependent on hearing the "crack." The primary goal of the adjustment is to improve alignment and function, and cavitation is simply a byproduct of this process.
  • Can Children Receive Chiropractic Care?

Yes, chiropractic care can be beneficial for children and is tailored to be gentle and safe. Children may receive chiropractic care for a variety of reasons, including musculoskeletal injuries, postural issues, and to support their overall growth and development. Allan is experienced in treating patients of all ages and Mctimoney chiropractic is especially effective and gentle.

  • What is a Tele-health appointment?

For those who can’t attend the clinic in person, I offer telehealth consultations. These sessions allow us to discuss your symptoms, health history, and lifestyle factors in depth, so I can provide tailored advice and guidance from the comfort of your home. While I won’t be able to perform hands-on treatment, I can:

    • Teach you specific stretches, mobility drills, and strengthening exercises
    • Guide you through self-release techniques for muscles and fascia
    • Offer posture and ergonomic advice for home or work
    • Support you with ongoing management strategies to keep you moving well

This option ensures you still receive professional support, clarity, and a clear plan of action—even at a distance.
