Hydrogen Therapy

Hydrogen Therapy — What The Research Says

Molecular hydrogen (H₂) has been studied as a biological antioxidant and signalling molecule since the landmark paper by Ohsawa et al. in 2007, which first showed that small amounts of H₂ can selectively neutralise harmful reactive oxygen species and reduce oxidative stress in cells. Since then a growing body of preclinical and human research—reviews and clinical trials across multiple disciplines—has explored hydrogen’s potential benefits for inflammation, exercise recovery, metabolic health and ageing-related markers. The clinical literature is still young but expanding, with systematic reviews and summaries of dozens of human trials published in recent years (See Hydrogen Water Studies for the most current studies).

We’ve been running small clinical trials in my practice combining hydrogen therapy with chiropractic care since Feb 2024 and have found improvements in patient-reported recovery and comfort that mirror findings in the literature. (These are informal clinic trials and not a replacement for mainstream research).

We’ve also found that effervescent tablets, added to water and drank within 20 minutes is the optimal option. I would recommend these
